SICO Borneo 2026 is a regional initiative bringing together culture, youth, and commerce across Borneo. The project required a visual identity that reflects unity, heritage, and modern relevance. My role focused on crafting a logo that was ultimately selected and used across official event materials and merchandise.
A regional initiative showcasing Borneo’s identity through curated design, merchandise, and on-ground experience.
Ensuring the design respects Borneo’s cultural heritage required careful research into traditional motifs and pantang, avoiding misuse of sensitive elements.
Working within a tight timeline, the challenge was to create a design that is simple, adaptable, and still holds long-term relevance across multiple applications.
With the hornbill being widely used in regional branding, the approach focused on creating a distinctive identity while maintaining a strong connection to Borneo.
The identity was applied across various touchpoints during the event, ensuring consistency and visibility throughout the experience.
Conducted in-depth research to identify the ideal audience.
Shifted primary focus from tourists to health-conscious and premium wellness consumers.
Created messaging that resonated with affluent buyers and natural health enthusiasts.
Instead of treating the website as a simple sales platform, we structured it as a brand-building tool.
Brand Story Page – Sharing Saranest’s story, its origins, and the passion behind promoting Sarawak’s cultural richness through food.
Process Transparency – A dedicated section showcasing the natural harvesting and production process, reinforcing the brand’s authenticity and quality.
Health Benefits Section – Educating consumers on why bird nest and other Sarawakian superfoods are beneficial.
Customer Trust Elements – Integrated testimonials, certifications, and FAQs to build credibility.
One of the most overlooked yet critical aspects we uncovered during discussions was the purchasing experience. Bird’s nest products are not low-cost commodities — they can easily reach thousands of ringgit per transaction. Expecting customers to carry such amounts in cash was not realistic.
For online transactions, we implemented a platform that allows buyers to select their preferred shipping method and payment option, creating a seamless and hassle-free checkout experience. On the backend, the process is fully automated—orders are systematically pushed through to the fulfillment team for efficient shipping without requiring manual steps.
For offline sales, we introduced a POS system provided by the same platform. This allowed Saranest to collect payments in-store or during events, ensuring that all transactions—both online and offline—are trackable within one integrated system. This consistency simplifies sales management and gives the team flexibility to operate in multiple locations while maintaining centralized reporting and control.
By creating a unified and flexible payment system, we dramatically accelerated their sales process, improved operational efficiency, and boosted customer confidence.
Through carefully crafted content, intuitive flow, and clear messaging, we built a website that was not only user-friendly but also optimized for search engine recognition. With over 90% of Malaysian users relying on Google, we focused our SEO strategy specifically around Google search behaviors and local keyword trends.
One of the best pieces of feedback we received from the client was that tourists had started driving specifically to visit Saranest’s physical store—bypassing other options in the area—after discovering them online. This increase in visibility didn’t happen by chance. It was the result of a solid SEO foundation paired with strong brand presentation and local relevance.
By targeting key location-based keywords such as “Sarawak Birdnest” and “Kuching Birdnest,” Saranest quickly rose to the top of relevant search results. These rankings directly matched the buying intent and behavior of their target audience.
As a result of this increased visibility, Saranest has expanded its presence from a single physical store to multiple locations, including airport outlets—solidifying their position as a leading bird’s nest brand in Sarawak.
